I painted this gourd birdhouse for a fundraiser called Art for the Birds which will take place next week on Thursday, March 31. There will be a silent auction for nearly 80 birdhouses and bird related projects from local artists benefiting the not-for-profit organization Journey Toward Sustainability. Journey Toward Sustainability was started in 2009 by two Charlotte women who wanted to begin a conversation about what living in a sustainable world means and to show the next generation how they could make a difference by doing small things. The organization's goal is to educate elementary school children by using an interactive learning bus called Eco-N-Motion. The bus is designed to travel to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to offer age appropriate steps to reduce waste and to conserve water and energy, as well as explore other environmental initiatives.
